Job Title: Head of Application Development

Job Summary:

ICBC Standard Bank is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Head of Application Development to lead our engineering teams in delivering high-quality software solutions. As a key member of our technology leadership team, you will be responsible for driving the vision, strategy, and implementation of integrated systems to support our business goals.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical leadership to engineering teams, defining best practices, standards, and guidelines for software development, architecture, and quality assurance.
  • Continuously improve software development processes, methodologies, and tools, collaborating with cross-functional teams to streamline workflows and enhance efficiency.
  • Drive Agile adoption across engineering teams, coaching and mentoring team members on Agile practices, including Scrum, Kanban, and Lean principles.
  • Oversee quality assurance processes, including test automation, code reviews, and continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD), ensuring adherence to coding standards and best practices.
  • Foster a culture of technical excellence by promoting innovation, knowledge sharing, and continuous learning, encouraging engineers to stay updated on industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Work closely with product managers, business stakeholders, and other technology leaders to align engineering practices with business goals, facilitating effective communication and collaboration across teams.
  • Develop and nurture engineering talent, identifying skill gaps, providing training opportunities, and creating career development paths for engineers.
  • Assess technical risks related to software development and propose mitigation strategies, ensuring compliance with security standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners to evaluate and integrate third-party tools, libraries, and services.
  • Define key performance indicators (KPIs) for engineering practices and regularly report on metrics related to code quality, delivery velocity, and team productivity.
  • Oversee the DevOPS Tooling team, responsible for the ongoing maintenance of developer tooling, and establish and run the DevOPS Governance and Engineering Governance processes, ensuring alignment to strategies.

Requirements:

  • Ability to provide technical leadership to cross-disciplinary engineering teams that own delivery of software from definition to production.
  • Hands-on experience with building and shipping software at pace.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of modern engineering practices (CI/CD, serverless/cloud architecture, infrastructure as code, and containerization).
  • Systems thinking and service design to mitigate reactive solutions that lead to further technical debt.
