We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEMH Teaching Assistant to join our team at Long-term Teachers Ltd. As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and other support staff to provide tailored support to students aged 11-16 who face social, emotional, and mental health challenges.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to students with SEMH needs
  • Assist with classroom activities, ensuring a safe and inclusive learning environment
  • Help students manage their emotions and behaviour using de-escalation techniques
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff to implement EHCPs and support strategies
  • Promote students' emotional wellbeing and encourage positive behaviour and social interactions
  • Monitor student progress and report back to the SENCO and teachers

What We're Looking For:

  • Experience working with young people with SEMH or other special educational needs in a school, youth work, or care setting
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships with students and staff
  • A calm, patient, and nurturing approach to supporting young people
  • The ability to manage challenging behaviour in a constructive and non-confrontational way
  • Flexibility, resilience, and a passion for improving the lives of young people
  • Desirable: Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant)
