Nursing Assistant

The Nursing Assistant will play a vital role in delivering high-quality care to patients at Stansfield Place, a 12-bedded male step-down rehabilitation unit within the Rehab and High Support Care Hub. The unit provides care and treatment to individuals with complex mental health needs and sometimes complex physical health needs using a recovery-focused model.
The Nursing Assistant will work as part of a wider team of professionals, engaging with patients on a 1-1 basis or in groups, and will be responsible for:
- Providing safe and effective care to patients
- Treating patients as individuals, respecting their right to privacy and dignity
- Engaging patients in their own care, promoting their autonomy and independence
- Striving to provide an outstanding service, exceeding patient expectations
- Being clear about the ward vision and the role that the Nursing Assistant plays within the team
- Engaging in learning and development, staying up-to-date with best practices and evidence-based care
- Contributing to growth through regular supervision and annual appraisal
- Being a member of a team, establishing their own role within that team
- Nursing Assistants will be informal leaders, setting an example for others within the team
The ideal candidate will have:
- GCSE (or equivalent) level of education with passes in English, maths, and science, or functional skills level 2
- Experience in a care setting, developing competencies in basic clinical care
- Completion of the Fundamental Care Certificate
- ICT competence
- PMVA training or willingness and ability to complete prior to start date
- Willingness to undertake and complete all essential training in accordance with the compliance matrix for this role
The Nursing Assistant will work as part of a team, promoting high standards of care, and will be expected to:
- Communicate effectively with patients, staff, families, and other external agencies
- Use verbal and non-verbal skills to overcome communication barriers presented by service users due to their mental health or learning disability needs
- Ensure effective communication, either verbal or written, amongst the team and by reporting any change or unusual occurrence in an individual's behavior or condition to the registered nurse
- Assist in the safekeeping of patients' property and clothing as required
- Participate in staff support groups and clinical supervision
- Work as part of the ward team, promoting high standards of care
- Understand the importance of confidentiality in all patient matters, and in accordance with the GDPR and Trust policy
- Comply with Trust policy and management instruction with regard to health and safety and to fire prevention, and not to do anything that endangers themselves or others
- Have a responsibility to be aware of and report safeguarding concerns to a senior nurse and record in notes where required
The Nursing Assistant will be expected to work as part of a team, promoting high standards of care, and will be responsible for:
- Facilitating patient activities under the direction of qualified staff
- Assisting Occupational Therapy staff in their therapeutic activity with patients
- Assisting any other Allied Health Professionals
The ideal candidate will be flexible to meet the needs of the unit and will be willing to undertake a full range of shifts as per the requirements of the service.
