Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Dispenser to join our team at Crick Medical Practice. As a Dispenser, you will play a vital role in ensuring the safe and accurate dispensing of medicines to our patients.

Main Responsibilities
  • Dispensing medicines to patients in accordance with practice policy and legislation.
  • Maintaining stock levels within the dispensary and liaising with the dispensary manager to facilitate reordering.
  • Checking all medicines dispensed to ensure there are no discrepancies.
  • Collecting prescription charges in accordance with dispensary protocol.
  • Receiving and storing supplies in accordance with current policy, ensuring the cold chain is maintained where applicable.
  • Ensuring controlled drugs are dispensed in accordance with practice policy.
  • Safe disposal of returned and/or out of date medicines.
  • Ensuring all repeat prescriptions are processed within specified practice timeframe.
  • Providing patients with advice regarding all prescription matters.
  • Processing prescription requests.
  • Processing Dossett boxes.
  • Assisting the Dispensary Manager in the preparation of monthly returns.
  • Maintaining a clean and safe working environment at all times.
  • Maintaining accurate records at all times, reading coding entries appropriately.
Secondary Responsibilities
  • Partaking in audit as directed by the audit lead.
  • Providing guidance for trainee dispensary staff and students as necessary.
  • Remaining current with the latest guidance, ensuring the dispensary conforms to NICE, CQC, etc. guidance.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Qualifications Essential for qualified dispenser:
  • NVQ Level 2 or equivalent (Trainee role - training will be provided).
  • GCSE (or equivalent) English & Maths at Grade C or above.
  • Experience working with the general public/patients.
  • Experience of working in a dispensary.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills (written and oral).
  • Strong IT skills.
  • Clear, polite telephone manner.
  • Competent in the use of Office and Outlook.
  • Ability to promote best practice regarding all pharmaceutical matters.
  • Effective time management (Planning & Organising).
  • Ability to work as a team member and autonomously.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Problem solving & analytical skills.
  • Ability to follow policy and procedure.
