About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Mental Health Consultant to join our team at Avon and Wiltshire Mental Health Partnership NHS Trust. As a Community Consultant Psychiatrist, you will play a vital role in providing high-quality mental health care to our patients.

Main Responsibilities
  1. Lead Mental Health Care Team: Be responsible for the mental health care of all inpatients through daily ward reviews, attending the ward Monday to Friday, delivering direct interventions including assessment, diagnoses and treatment of mental and physical health needs.
  2. Supervise Medical Team: Supervise the medical team that provides medical care and act as Responsible Clinician for detained inpatients.
  3. Collaborate with Intensive Teams: Collaboratively work with the Intensive teams to provide dedicated lead Consultant input to acute care service coordination.
  4. Provide Senior Medical Cover: Provide nominal senior medical cover to the S136 suite during the daytime.
  5. Support Clinical Governance: Support and participate in Clinical Governance and Audit and have opportunities to undertake medical audit and activities related to clinical governance issues, subject to job-planning and under supervision of the line manager.
  6. Develop Acute Care Services: Contribute to the development of acute care services in line with best practice and nationally accredited standards.
  7. Participate in Acute Care Pathways: Actively participate in acute care pathways meetings identifying services users who require access to inpatient services in a timely manner as well as identifying potential discharges from the inpatient ward.
  8. Support Strategic Development: Support the Medical Lead and participate in strategic development both within the local service and the wider Trust.
