Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Orthopaedic Technician to provide high-quality patient care in our Orthopaedic Outpatients department. As a skilled practitioner, you will be responsible for casting for all types of fractures, positioning and moulding of casts, and serial casting for idiopathic toe walking, Perthes Disease, and spinal deformities.

Main Duties

  • Casting for children with DDH (hip spicas)
  • Wedging of cast
  • Removal of K wires

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide patient-centred casting for orthopaedic outpatients
  • Carry out a full range of plaster techniques, including routine and complex casts, as well as resting/functional splinting, casting bracing, and focused rigidity casting
  • Support patients during cast application and removal, and provide advice on cast and splint care

Person Specification

Qualifications

Essential

  • BOA/RCN (SON) AOT Diploma in casting techniques/British Casting Certificate
  • Willingness to expand role and skills to meet the needs of children and families attending the plaster room
  • Demonstrates a commitment to continuous professional development
  • Knowledge of human anatomy and physiology relevant to orthopaedics
  • Able to work effectively as an empowered member of the multi-disciplinary team

Desirable

  • Experience of working in an acute hospital environment
  • Evidence of enthusiasm, flexibility, and commitment to team ethos
