Head Gardener

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Head Gardener to lead our garden operations across the Heart of Cornwall portfolio. As a key member of the Property Leadership Team, you will be responsible for managing and caring for three exceptional gardens, including Trelissick, Glendurgan, and Trerice.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead a team of 11 staff and over 50 garden volunteers to deliver high-quality garden operations and conservation work.
• Develop and implement long-term plans for the gardens, including budgeting and resource management.
• Work closely with the visitor experience team to enhance visitor engagement and access to the gardens.
• Collaborate with property teams to improve access and enjoyment for local and international visitors.
• Stay up-to-date with the latest conservation and horticultural practices to ensure the gardens are managed to the highest standards.

Requirements

• Significant practical horticultural experience, supported by relevant qualifications (RHS level 3 or above).
• Experience of managing a diverse garden throughout the seasons, with excellent knowledge of plants and plant care.
• Knowledge and understanding of conservation of historic landscapes and ability to work with key management documents.
• Experience of contributing to the development and delivery of interventions and programming within gardens and the outdoors.
• Good communication and leadership skills, with experience of managing and supporting teams.
• Experience of managing operational risk and compliance requirements relevant to horticulture.
