Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for working with children, young people, and their families to meet the health and wellbeing needs of pupils and staff. This will involve assessing pupils and staff who attend the Health Centre, using professional knowledge, judgment, and experience to treat them effectively and holistically.

Key Duties:

  • Dispense daily prescribed medication, including controlled medication, to boarding and day pupils in accordance with Brighton College's Administration of Medication policy.
  • Maintain thorough and accurate records for all pupil consultations, ensuring assessment and actions taken are documented on ISAMS.
  • Make referrals for boarding pupils to the school GP or external agencies when necessary.
  • Develop individualised health care plans (IHCP) for pupils with medical conditions and follow these appropriately.
  • Communicate effectively with other members of the nursing team, house staff, parents, and external agencies to ensure the best care is provided to pupils and that they are safe.
  • Liaise closely with the pastoral, wellbeing, and safeguarding teams to support pupils' psychological and emotional wellbeing.
  • Operate procedures for infectious disease control to reduce the incidence of contagious illnesses.
  • Follow procedures for the safe disposal of clinical waste and be aware of recommended safe storage, usage, and disposal of medical supplies and drugs.
  • Comply with the College's Health and Safety Policies and identify risks involved in day-to-day activities, reporting them to the relevant team.
  • Maintain medical records accurately, confidentially, and safely, and assist with compliance checks and documentation.
Person Specification

To be successful in this role, the candidate will need to have:

  • Nursing validation and relevant qualifications and training up to date to meet NMC registration requirements.
  • The ability to prioritise and manage situations under pressure.
  • Excellent interpersonal and empathetic communication skills, and the ability to interact with people at all levels.
  • Good personal skills in a caring, friendly, and confident manner.
  • Competent IT skills, including the use of spreadsheets and databases (i.e., ISAMS and CPOMS).
  • Experience of working in practice nursing, minor injuries, and emergency care or school nursing.
  • Able to work as an autonomous practitioner as well as part of the wider Nursing and Health and Wellbeing Team.
  • A professional, flexible, and proactive attitude.
  • The ability to respond calmly, quickly, and willingly to urgent and unexpected requests.
Working Hours and Remuneration

The successful candidate will work Saturday 8.00pm to 5.00pm with a 30-minute paid lunch break (9 hours per week) during term time (35 weeks) plus an additional two weeks (37 weeks total). The salary for this role will be £8,748 per annum.
