The Role:An on-call firefighter is a paid employee who responds to emergencies and engages with the community. They have everyday lives until their pager sounds, then they become professional firefighters.
The work may be called 'part-time', but on-call firefighters are trained and experienced individuals on the front line, saving lives and protecting people and community assets.
On-call firefighters come from all areas of the community, including those who are employed, studying, or not currently employed. They are exceptional individuals who give their time to assist the fire and rescue service and help protect their communities.
This role is demanding, but it offers the chance to make a real contribution. You will form close working relationships with the team, essential when dealing with emergencies, and further enhanced by other aspects of the role such as attending community events.
On-call firefighters are involved in a wide variety of situations, including community fire safety, flooding, co-responding, road accidents, and chemical spills.
Previous experience is not necessary, as we provide a comprehensive training programme. What is important is that you are enthusiastic and can meet certain essential requirements.
Please note: To be eligible to apply, you must work and/or live within 4 minutes of the Fire Station. If you do not meet this criteria, your application will be automatically rejected.
