The Opportunity

We publish high-quality print and digital resources for the higher education market globally. As an Editorial Assistant, you will have the opportunity to work on a variety of textbooks, scholarly publications, and digital learning resources, supporting all aspects of the publishing process from new proposals through to publication.

The Role
  • Support the team to meet annual commissioning, publishing, and profitability targets
  • Coordinate and manage academic books and digital resources through all stages of the publishing process
  • Manage the peer review process for proposals and draft manuscripts
  • Conduct course, competitor, and other market research
  • Liaise with authors, and colleagues across editorial, production, marketing, sales, and digital
  • Use publishing systems to set up titles and manage editorial processes
  • Assess and prepare manuscripts for handover to production
  • Check content for third-party material and arrange copyright permissions
  • Assist in the editorial workflow for digital content, including using content management systems
  • Brief cover designs and write cover copy
  • Deal with queries and check proofs for titles in production
Knowledge, Skills, and Experience

The ideal applicant for this role will be able to demonstrate that they are:

  • Organized with excellent prioritization skills: able to balance a varied workload effectively
  • An excellent communicator (written and verbal)
  • Able to build effective working relationships with colleagues and external contacts
  • Meticulous in their attention to detail and accuracy
  • Self-motivated with a positive, can-do attitude

  • Good at finding solutions to problems and using their initiative
  • Numerate, with experience of using Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, and Excel
Additional Information

The role is a full-time (35 hours per week) and permanent position. The salary is £27,000 per annum. The role is based at our London office, 50 Bedford Square, London, WC1B 3DP, on a hybrid working pattern of 2 days office-based / 3 days home-based (or fully office-based if preferred). Allocated office days for this role are Wednesdays and Thursdays.
