Job Summary

The Mechanical Design Engineer is a key member of the Hawboldt team, responsible for designing, developing, and implementing technical products and systems. This role involves performing engineering design evaluations, participating in product development, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure successful project outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical systems, including concept, design, and production drawings, with supporting calculations and data.
  • Review and analyze engineering drawings, retrieve information, and complete drawing, layout, or design tasks.
  • Prepare information submittals for review by project certifying authorities and customers' engineering departments.
  • Support checking drawings and calculations for assigned projects.
  • Write performance requirements for product development or engineering projects.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, schematics, and computer-generated reports related to mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical systems.
  • Recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.
  • Apply fundamental engineering principles and advanced analytical techniques throughout the design process.
  • Maintain thorough documentation for all aspects of assigned projects.
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and engineering teams to provide cost-effective solutions to design challenges.
  • Travel to customers' sites to support sales, service, commissioning, and installation of equipment.

Requirements

  • Experience in mechanical design, finite analysis, and structural calculations in a heavy equipment manufacturing environment.
  • Post-secondary education in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent training/work experience.
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems and electrical components is an asset.
  • Proven hands-on experience with 3D software, such as Inventor, is an asset.
  • Ability to travel to customers' sites to support service, commissioning, installation, and other activities.
