IT Infrastructure Lead Engineer

We are seeking an experienced IT Infrastructure Lead Engineer to join our team at Interface Recruitment UK. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of our server estate, designing and developing scalable IT infrastructure, and providing technical expertise to support the planning and delivery of transformational IT projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement secure, reliable, and resilient IT infrastructure solutions to support business growth and transformation.
  • Develop and maintain high-level designs for IT infrastructure projects, working closely with stakeholders to ensure alignment with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with our solutions partners to stay up-to-date with new technologies and industry trends, and to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Execute, test, and roll-out innovative IT solutions to ensure they meet business requirements and are scalable for future growth.
  • Manage the Lamp stack (Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP servers), Linux email platforms, MS Windows Servers, VM-Ware platform, and monitoring & alerting tools.
  • Provide technical expertise in areas such as Jenkins, Puppet, Chef, and similar tools, and assist in the planning and deployment of software updates and patches.
  • Work with the wider IT department and third parties to continually monitor IT security, reacting in a timely manner to any vulnerabilities identified.
  • Regularly audit instance usage and ensure monetary and resource costs are understood with stakeholders.
  • Provide auditing and reporting for all internal and customer IT infrastructures, highlighting risks and plans for mitigation.
  • Support emergency Business Continuity and/or Disaster Recovery actions if required.
  • Manage the planning and execution of all core infrastructure upgrades and implementations, following a CAB approval process for any live service-affecting change.
  • Manage third-party contracts and relationships.
  • Conduct audit and inventory of software systems, licensing, and services.
Essential Competencies/Skills and Experiences:
  • Experience in script writing.
  • Experience in RPM packaging, configuration management, and infrastructure as code.
  • Ability to explain technical matters to non-technical members of the team.
  • Ability to work on and lead technical projects, delivering on time and to budget.
  • Flexibility to support the team and business out-of-hours where necessary.
  • Ability to prepare infrastructure designs and provide support to the B2B team with presales queries and solution questions.
  • Ability to support and mentor junior members of the IT Operations team on technical matters.
Desirable Competencies/Skills and Experiences:
  • VM-Ware/RedHat accredited.
  • Experience in a client-facing or consultancy role.
  • Experience of cloud migration projects (Azure and similar).
