Mechanical Engineering Technician

We are seeking a highly skilled Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our Ocean Engineering group at the National Oceanography Centre. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and effective operation and maintenance of our marine science capabilities, including winches, liquid nitrogen systems, and laboratory containers.
This is a challenging and rewarding role that requires strong technical knowledge and skills, as well as excellent communication and teamwork abilities. You will work closely with our team of technicians and engineers to provide technical support and maintenance services, and will be accountable for provisioning and maintaining our marine science equipment.
The successful candidate will have a recognized apprenticeship or equivalent qualification in mechanical engineering, or relevant experience working in a mechanical engineering field. You will also have knowledge of hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic systems, and be able to interpret technical drawings and diagrams.

We offer a competitive salary and benefits package, including 28 days annual leave, plus 3.5 local closure days and 8 public bank holidays, and a contributory Group Personal Pension Plan. This is a permanent, full-time position (37 hours per week) with up to 90 days sea-going.
