Procurement Senior Buyer Role Overview

WHSmith is seeking a seasoned Procurement Senior Buyer to join our Group Procurement team in Swindon. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for delivering high standards through effective consultation, influence, and implementation of procurement strategies that optimize total value across the wider group.

Main Responsibilities
  • Rationalizing and developing the supplier base to drive efficiency and cost savings.
  • Developing and executing strategic plans for categories, incorporating UK, European, and international sourcing strategies.
  • Liaising with stakeholders and budget holders to ensure goals and targets are fully understood and facilitated through effective procurement delivery.
  • Managing the tender process, from RFI to RFP, to secure the best value for the company.
  • Supporting regular contract reviews, challenging the status quo to ensure optimal solutions.
  • Leading small projects and contract negotiations, as well as supporting medium and large contract tenders.
  • Procuring small capital items efficiently and meeting tight deadlines.
  • Delivering cost reduction, risk mitigation, and control of annual category spend.
  • Providing commercial, contractual, and negotiation support to stakeholders.
  • Managing contractual relationships with suppliers during the contracting process.

Requirements
  • At least 3 years of prior experience in procurement, with similar accountabilities.
  • Indirect category experience is advantageous.
  • Strong commercial acumen, with the ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and meet tight deadlines.
  • Analysis and attention to detail are crucial.
  • Commercial contract and negotiation skills.
  • Contract Law and contract drafting knowledge.
  • Influencing skills at all levels, with the ability to establish strong working relationships internally and externally.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Intermediate/Advanced level capability in using Microsoft Office tools, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
