Nursery Kitchen Assistant Role

We are seeking a skilled and enthusiastic Kitchen Assistant to join our team at Bright Horizons Phoenix Day Nursery and Preschool in Brentwood, Essex. As a key member of our kitchen team, you will be responsible for maintaining a clean and safe environment, supporting the Chef in food preparation, and ensuring the highest standards of food safety and hygiene.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and cook age-appropriate meals for children, minimizing food waste and adhering to dietary requirements.
  • Support the Chef in maintaining kitchen cleanliness and organization, adhering to internal and external requirements.
  • In the absence of the Chef, take responsibility for the running of the kitchen, ensuring all dietary requirements are catered for and clearly communicated to the teams.
  • Promote and ensure child welfare, protection, health, and safety, and safeguarding.
  • Work with colleagues to maintain a positive, happy, and safe environment.

Requirements:

  • Previous experience in a kitchen role, preferably in a domestic or commercial setting.
  • Passion for nutrition and inspiring healthy eating.
  • Food Safety CIEH L2 or above (or equivalent) – this must be passed on day 1 in post.
  • Sound knowledge of COSHH and managing different dietary requirements, particularly food allergies.
  • Great communication skills, with both colleagues, children, and parents.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
