Job Title: Synchrotron Scientist Position for Quantum Materials Research


About the Role:


We are seeking a highly skilled Synchrotron Scientist to join our team at Diamond Light Source, a leading national synchrotron science facility in the UK. As a Synchrotron Scientist, you will be responsible for developing and installing synchrotron instrumentation, including end-stations dedicated to quantum materials research.


The successful candidate will have a PhD in a relevant field, such as Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science, and significant experience in designing and implementing high-quality scientific equipment. They will also possess excellent communication and organisational skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team.


This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research in quantum materials, leveraging the unique capabilities of the Coherent Soft X-ray Imaging and Diffraction (CSXID) beamline at Diamond Light Source. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an internationally competitive research program, lead their own research, and participate in in-house research programs on the beamline.


Key Responsibilities:



  • Design, prototype, construct, commission, and optimise the endstation for quantum materials research
  • Collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team to drive development of hardware and software
  • Develop an internationally competitive research program and lead own research
  • Participate in in-house research programs on the beamline
  • Provide user support and assist visiting scientists in carrying out experiments

Requirements:



  • PhD in a relevant field, such as Physics, Chemistry, or Materials Science
  • Significant experience in designing and implementing high-quality scientific equipment
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
  • Python programming skills for data analysis, data acquisition, and control of scientific equipment

Benefits:


Diamond Light Source offers a comprehensive benefits package, including 26 days annual leave, public holidays, flexible working hours, and access to on-site amenities, such as a nursery, cafes, restaurant, and sports facilities. A relocation allowance may also be available where applicable.


Salary: £38,756 - £54,912 per annum (dependent on experience)
