About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Physicist to join our team at the UK Atomic Energy Authority, specializing in Disruption Control. As a key member of our research team, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our understanding of disruptions in fusion energy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement disruption detection methods with high accuracy to enable effective disruption avoidance.
  • Contribute to experiments on MAST-U to test real-time disruption avoidance strategies for the STEP device.
  • Investigate and mitigate disruption consequences, including heat and electromagnetic loads, and runaway electrons.
  • Collaborate with international experts to publish research findings in refereed journals and present at conferences.
  • Establish and maintain a strong network of external collaborations to advance our research goals.
Requirements
  • PhD in Physics or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Proficiency in programming languages, including C, FORTRAN, IDL, and Python.
  • Proven ability to conduct independent physics research and analyze complex data.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a strong focus on collaboration and external engagement.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Knowledge of real-time control methods and their application in fusion energy.
  • Experience in conducting detailed analysis of experimental and modeled data, with a focus on error analysis and tool development.
  • Understanding of safety considerations in planning and executing research work.
  • A strong publication record in a related field, with a focus on advancing our understanding of disruptions in fusion energy.
