Job Description

Graduate Teaching Assistant - Teacher Training Provided

We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Graduate Teaching Assistant to join our team at a fantastic school in Croydon. As a Graduate Teaching Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals and groups of students at the academy, including those with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).

Your key responsibilities will include supporting learning in the classroom, attending to students' personal needs, and developing resources and teaching strategies to support learning needs. You will also have the opportunity to lead small group sessions and interventions, and establish and maintain positive relationships with parents and carers.

Key Details of the Graduate Teaching Assistant Role

  • Graduate Teaching Assistant
  • Monday-Friday, term time only
  • £100-£115 per day
  • Located in the London Borough of Croydon
  • Opportunity to train with an outstanding mentor and gain valuable experience in a supportive learning environment

Responsibilities of a Graduate Teaching Assistant

  • Supporting students in 1:1, group or whole class situations, prioritising their safety and access to learning
  • Assisting in developing resources and teaching strategies to support learning needs
  • Evaluating students' progress and providing feedback on their achievements and needs
  • Leading small group sessions and interventions as appropriate
  • Attending to students' personal needs and supporting with behaviour management
  • Preparing the classroom for lessons and clearing afterwards
  • Establishing and maintaining positive relationships with parents and carers

Requirements

  • Qualifications to degree level or equivalent
  • Basic knowledge of SEND and the various barriers to learning
  • Some knowledge of strategies in working with young people with challenging behaviours
  • Knowledge of social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds
  • Awareness of Health and Safety issues in a school environment
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills, with an excellent standard of written and spoken English
