Job Description

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Chemical Safety Specialist to join our team at Fosroc. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring regulatory compliance across the business, championing continuous improvement in GHS, REACH, CLP, ADR, and UN codes, and developing a positive culture and safe working environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Advise on and manage the dissemination of current and upcoming chemical laws, regulations, industry standards, and best practices group-wide.
  • Ensure the business complies with, and maintains an awareness of, GHS and related legislation, including the registration of chemicals, classification, labelling, and packaging of chemicals, transportation of chemicals, and storage and handling of chemicals.
  • Equip the business with the necessary skills, knowledge, and technology to achieve the required standard on UN labelling and packaging codes.
  • Lead, support, and maintain the resources required to produce and author high-quality safety data sheets, as well as the implementation of product labelling and raw material introduction programs.
  • Champion the principles and practices for safe storage and handling of chemicals.
  • Facilitate the free flow of data and knowledge (technology transfer) between Operating Companies, including formulation data, manufacturing processes, test methods, product knowledge, and HSE information.
  • Manage the development and administration of related training to underpin all these requirements.
  • Assist with the preparation of external product registrations/certifications/notifications to support existing business and to secure business growth.
  • Collaborate with other functions to identify and mitigate potential regulatory compliance risks.
  • Assist and advise in the improvement or creation of new laboratory facilities within the Group.
  • Any additional duties as assigned by the business.

Requirements:

  • Degree-level education in Chemistry.
  • Formally trained in GHS, ADR, and IMDG codes, including UN Codes for packaging and labelling.
  • Strong communication skills with excellent written and oral presentation.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience preparing SDS to GHS Standard requirements.
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in the formulation, manufacture, and/or use of a range of products (commensurate with those manufactured by Fosroc) used in the Construction (or closely allied) industry.
  • Analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to think on your feet and to resolve issues quickly with little or no direction from senior management.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions provided in written, oral, diagram, or schedule format.
  • Good negotiating skills.
  • Ability to make good judgments and make good decisions.

Knowledge of Applicable Legislation:

  • REACH, CLP, Detergents, COSHH, Biocides, COMAH, etc., and their equivalents.
