About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced pharmacist to join our senior pharmacy team as the Medicines Safety Officer and Governance Lead.

Main Responsibilities
  • Lead the strategic development of the Trust-wide medication safety agenda and identify initiatives to minimize risk from medication safety issues.
  • Act as the designated Medicines Safety Officer for the Trust, supporting the Chief Pharmacist, Medical Director, and Chief Nurse Officer in their corporate responsibility for Medicines Management.
  • Implement Trust-wide medicines-related NHS Improvement alerts, MHRA Drug Safety Updates, and manufacturer-initiated safety initiatives, including producing action plans and monitoring ongoing compliance.
  • Support the Deputy Chief Pharmacist in all elements of medicine and pharmaceutical clinical governance, ensuring policies and procedures for medicine use are developed to the highest quality.
  • Lead the Pharmacy Governance Group.

Person Specification
  • Vocational Masters Degree in Pharmacy and registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council.
  • One year pre-registration training and experience.
  • Diploma in clinical pharmacy or equivalent documented experience.
  • Membership of The Royal Pharmaceutical Society.
  • Evidence of further education/training in clinical pharmacy practice.
  • Formal Management qualification (e.g., diploma or degree).
  • Certification of Supplementary/Independent prescribing.
  • Post-registration hospital experience.
  • Experience as a Highly Specialist Clinical Pharmacist or equivalent documented clinical experience.
  • Ability to cope with occasional distressing circumstances.
  • Able to think clearly in stressful situations.
  • Line management experience.
