About the Role
The Vale of Glamorgan Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Engagement and Attendance Liaison Officer to support the work of the Inclusion Team. This temporary, full-time role will play a crucial part in promoting the welfare and attendance of learners in school, as well as providing guidance and support to families and schools.
Key Responsibilities
- Support the Inclusion Team in promoting the welfare and attendance of learners in school, including the use of legal routes such as Fixed Penalty Notices and School Attendance Orders.
- Work with schools, families, and learners to promote positive attendance and reduce persistent absence.
- Act as the first point of liaison between schools, parents, and the Inclusion Team.
- Provide guidance and support to schools and families to promote positive attendance and reduce persistent absence.
- Work with the Inclusion Team to develop and implement strategies to improve attendance and reduce persistent absence.
Requirements
- Experience of working in or with schools.
- Experience of working with pupils in several key stages.
- Working with ALN pupils or pupils from a potentially vulnerable group.
- Working with phobic, anxious, or reluctant pupils/learners or with non-attenders.
- Work engaging young people in or out of the school environment.
- Work liaising with parents/carers in or out of school settings.
- Multi-agency working knowledge.
- Knowledge of the Vale of Glamorgan support for wellbeing, such as approaches to and support for Social and Emotional and Mental Health needs.
- Knowledge of the workings of schools and the National Curriculum.
- An understanding of the legislation relating to the education of children and young people and the Welsh government attendance framework.
- A sound knowledge and understanding of the legislation relating to Education and Safeguarding Children and Young People.
- Knowledge and understanding of the impact social deprivation and disadvantage has on school attendance and attainment.
- IT knowledge and ability to use ICT effectively and safely and in accordance with data and privacy legislation.
Working Arrangements
- 37 hours per week, 52 weeks.
- Temporary role, initially funded by a grant.
- Main place of work: Civic Offices, Barry, with some work from home and frequent school meetings and school-based working across the LA.
