About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Pharmacist to join our Surgical Division as a Surgical Specialist Pharmacist. This is an exciting opportunity to work in a dynamic and forward-thinking environment, contributing to the delivery of high-quality patient care.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and maintain clinical pharmacy services to the Surgical Division, including pre-op clinics, theatres, and other medical wards.
  • Liaise with senior pharmacy, medical, and nursing staff to promote safe and effective use of medicines within the Surgical division.
  • Provide information and support to the Surgical Division on drug usage and expenditure, working with senior clinicians to maximise clinical effectiveness of medicines used and minimise cost.
  • Develop a robust medicines-related audit programme with senior clinicians in the directorate.
  • Participate in the training of pharmacists, trainee pharmacists, undergraduate pharmacists, and other pharmacy and NHS staff.

Person Specification
  • Masters degree (or equivalent) in pharmacy.
  • Postgraduate certificate (or equivalent) in Clinical Pharmacy, or currently working towards attaining.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Computer literacy, including Pharmacy applications.
  • Membership of the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
  • Independent prescribing qualification, or currently working towards attaining.
  • Evidence of UK hospital pharmacy experience.
  • Previous experience of audit or quality improvement.
  • Experience of one-to-one and small group teaching.
  • Knowledge of the legal framework for the dispensing, prescribing, and administration of medicine.
  • Knowledge and experience of Surgical medicine, including common pharmaceutical care issues in this patient population.
  • Previous experience of line management or mentorship of junior pharmacists.
Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to operate multiple clinical digital systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Problem identification and solving.
  • Prioritisation and task management.
  • Ability to critically analyse prescriptions for clinical appropriateness.
  • Ability to make safe and clinically relevant decisions in high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to manage a small team of junior pharmacists and pharmacy technicians on a daily basis.
