We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineer to join our Technical Services Team at the Eden Project.
Job SummaryThe successful candidate will be responsible for the maintenance and upgrading of our engineering systems, infrastructure, and plumbing. This is a hands-on role that requires a strong background in mechanical installation, pumps, pipework, and plantroom maintenance.
Key Responsibilities- Install, maintain, repair, and safely operate site mechanical fluid systems and associated equipment.
- Install industrial pipework in various sizes, valves, and fittings, including domestic plumbing systems.
- Maintain Plantroom Pumps, Site Heating systems, Water Services, Air Handling Units (AHUs), taps, sinks, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
- Have good general mechanical and electrical skills, including diagnostic skills to fault find and maintain or replace site items as required.
- Assist other teams within the Eden Project, where mechanical technician skills and expertise are required to support events, displays, exhibitions, and research projects.
- Assist with the day-to-day supervision and education of new staff, trainees, and volunteers.
- Actively engage and interact with visitors, answering questions, providing guidance, and imparting knowledge to promote the Eden Project ethos.
- Qualified to at least NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in an industry-recognized plumbing or mechanical engineering qualification.
- Hold a current full driving license.
- Numeracy and literacy must be at a sufficient level to enable the job holder to use basic IT programs and maintain accurate records.
- Fully conversant with standard mechanical maintenance procedures, fault finding, interpreting schematics and technical drawings, and using test equipment.
The role regularly requires physical effort, such as bending, lifting, and climbing, within a variety of exposed climatic environments.
Additional FeaturesThe job holder is required to continuously develop their technical knowledge and keep abreast of current industry practice and legislation, as well as changing Health and Safety regulations.
