Job Title: Lead SEND Life Skills Teacher

Job Overview:
We are seeking an experienced SEND Life Skills Teacher to lead our Social and Learning provision at the Down Syndrome Development Trust. The teacher will be responsible for managing and expanding our Social and Learning provision, recruiting and managing volunteers, and teaching individuals or small groups of pupils.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and expand our Social and Learning provision
  • Teach individuals or small groups of pupils within, or outside, the class
  • Prepare lessons and resources
  • Organise learning outside the classroom in activities such as community visits, outings or sporting events
  • Assess young people who have long or short-term learning difficulties and work with colleagues to identify individual pupils' special needs
  • Work closely with parents and guardians, the charity's team of staff and other professionals
  • Assist in disabled pupils' personal care/medical needs
  • Carry out administrative tasks, including updating and maintaining records of pupils' progress, risk assessments, safeguarding and other policies
  • Prepare plans and budgets for specific projects and community outreach activities
  • Nurture new and old relationships with collaborative partners
  • Prepare reports regarding social and learning provision for local authority or private funders


Requirements:

  • Preferred experience of 3-5 years (or longer) in a teaching environment
  • Preferred higher education qualification
  • Driving licence (to drive a minibus)
  • SEN experience working with people with disabilities
  • Experience of management in the care sectors
  • Experience of managing a small team of staff
  • Outstanding written communication and presentation skills
  • Strong experience preparing reports
  • Knowledge of social media and other basic marketing platforms
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects at a time
