Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Maintenance and Repair Specialist to join our team at The Christie NHS FT. As a key member of our Estates Hard FM team, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing a wide range of building services and equipment.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Service, test, diagnose, repair and calibrate advanced mechanical, electrical and electronic installations, plant and equipment.
  • Use and understanding of the building engineering management system.
  • Attain competent person training in line with HTM 04.
  • Carry out performance testing of water and drainage systems as and when required.
  • Attend to fire calls and communicate with Fire Officers.
  • Deal with new situations as they arise and pass on knowledge to others.
  • IT Skills.
  • Service and Maintain Air handling Units including Theatre plant.
  • Attain Medical Gas competency.
  • Service and Maintain Domestic Hot Water & Cold-Water Systems including drainage and rainwater systems.
  • Undertake duties of craftspersons if required.
  • Assemble, install and commission new work.
  • Use all relevant tools and equipment.
  • Use and safe operation of hydraulic platforms, and roof access.
  • Instruct other on all aspects of their work.
  • Learn new techniques with training as necessary.
  • Understand fully the relationship of craftspersons work with their own.
  • Work safely and with consideration for others.
  • Be aware of the needs and sensitivities and confidentially of an acute patient care and laboratory environment.
  • Working in a research laboratory.
  • Carry out a planned maintenance scheme.
  • Participate in a On Call Rota.
  • Other duties as directed.
Person Specification

The ideal candidate will have:

  • NVQ Level 3 B Tech/HNC or equivalent.
  • Relevant post apprentice training.
  • Relevant Experience.
  • Further experience in NHS buildings and building engineering services.

The successful candidate will be skilled at fault finding, skilled in the use of relevant tools and materials, able to prioritize work, and have a good understanding of time management to minimize departmental disruption. They will also have good communication skills and be able to work safely and with consideration for others.
