We are seeking a skilled Technical Specialist in Histopathology and Imaging to join our team at the Wellcome Sanger Institute. As a key member of our Parasites and Microbes Programme, you will play a crucial role in supporting our research efforts and contributing to the advancement of human health and understanding of life on Earth.
Key Responsibilities- Provide expertise in optimisation and experimental design on projects involving histopathology, including sectioning, mounting, and staining tissues for imaging and annotation.
- Work closely with our core spatial transcriptomics facility to maximise insight from precious samples, investigating host-microbiome interactions using spatial transcriptomics and bulk RNAseq approaches.
- Support the Imaging Lead with the management and training on advanced light microscopes and learn electron microscopy to provide resilience within the PaM Imaging Suite.
We are looking for a highly motivated and detail-oriented individual with a passion for facilitating cutting-edge scientific research. You will thrive in a fast-paced environment and be able to manage and prioritise a varied workload. Essential technical skills include a degree in biological sciences or equivalent work experience, in-depth knowledge and experience of practical laboratory work, cryosectioning experience, and other histology experience.
Competencies and Behaviours- Demonstrate good networking and relationship building skills, with the ability to manage stakeholders and communicate effectively to internal and external partners and stakeholders.
- Produce concise, unambiguous, and structured documentation for audiences of varying technical ability.
- Have a passion for continuous learning and apply new approaches and ways of working where appropriate.
- Possess excellent attention to detail and respect diversity and cultural differences.
We offer a flexible-hybrid working pattern model, allowing for flexibility between remote and office working. However, this role requires the successful individual to be on campus a minimum of 3 days a week, with the flexibility to be on site whenever shipments are expected.
