North Hertfordshire College seeks an exceptional Academic Support Associate to join its team. This role involves providing outstanding in-class and out-of-class support for students with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), helping them to achieve their potential and become independent, confident learners.

About the Role
  • The ideal candidate will have experience working with vulnerable young people who have SEND, including Neurodiversity and Social Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
  • We are committed to improving opportunities for young people with SEND, especially in areas of independence, health, and well-being, social inclusion, and work opportunities to prepare them for adulthood.
  • The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong track record of adapting and developing creative methods to engage young people with a calm and positive approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement highly effective strategies to support diverse additional learning needs while promoting independence and tailoring these for each individual in line with their EHCP, support plan, initial assessment, and individual targets.
  • Maintain accurate and timely departmental records and contribute to setting and monitoring individual targets, including reviewing EHCP outcomes as part of the annual review process.
  • Provide support with study skills, pastoral needs, and community access 1:1 or in small groups to ensure students successfully navigate challenges and progress to their aspirational destination.
