Job Title: SQL Database Administrator

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior SQL Database Administrator (DBA) with a strong background in UNIX and SQL Server to join our team at Vallum Associates.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Database Administration: Manage, optimize, and maintain SQL Server databases to ensure high performance, availability, and security.
  • UNIX Management: Oversee UNIX environments, ensuring proper configuration and efficient operation of database systems.
  • Performance Tuning: Conduct regular performance assessments and implement strategies for database optimization and tuning.
  • Backup and Recovery: Develop and maintain robust backup and recovery plans to protect data integrity and minimize downtime.
  • Security Implementation: Establish and enforce database security measures, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with development and operations teams to support application deployment and data-related initiatives.
  • Documentation: Create and maintain detailed documentation for database configurations, procedures, and policies.
  • Hedge Fund Support: Provide dedicated database support for trading applications and financial systems, ensuring quick issue resolution.
Qualifications:
  • Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience as a SQL Database Administrator, with a strong focus on SQL Server and UNIX environments.
  • Hedge Fund Experience: Experience in the hedge fund or financial services industry is preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of SQL Server administration, including installation, configuration, and troubleshooting.
  • Proficient in UNIX/Linux systems administration and scripting (e.g., Shell, Perl).
  • Strong understanding of database performance tuning and optimization techniques.
  • Experience with disaster recovery solutions and data backup strategies.
  • Analytical Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities and a keen attention to detail.
  • Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.
  • Certifications: Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified Database Administrator) are advantageous.
