About the Role
At Tesco, we're committed to staying ahead of digital advancements and securing new technologies. As a Cybersecurity Software Engineer, you'll join our Application Security Architecture Team in Tesco Technology, driving research and development of security packages (code snippets or blocks) for centralized management. Your work will empower software development teams across the organization to seamlessly integrate security defaults into technology stacks.
Key responsibilities include:
  1. Researching security patterns in commonly used and emerging tech stacks, developing code snippets or blocks to harden software tech stacks as reusable security packages.
  2. Collaborating with high-skilled developer communities to understand security implementation challenges through prototypes, addressing feedback to standardize common security patterns with tech stacks.
  3. Delivering reusable security packages or security-hardened tech stacks for seamless integration into diverse development projects, providing expert guidance and support.
  4. Driving beta trials with selected software engineering teams before general release.
  5. Your work will focus on enabling software development teams to enhance software security, increase adherence to technology-specific security design standards, and provide guidance for implementing product security backlog items covered by these security packages.
  6. Collaborating with security champions across software engineering teams, advocating for secure coding practices, and integrating security at every stage of the software development lifecycle.
Requirements
We're looking for an experienced professional with:
  1. Proficiency in multiple programming languages such as Python, JavaScript, with a strong emphasis on Java (Micronaut/Spring Boot).
  2. Security design thinking with Threat Modelling and secure coding techniques, deep understanding of authentication, authorization, cryptography, integration, etc.
  3. 7+ years of hands-on software development experience with a focus on security-focused development.
  4. Experience in developing APIs with RESTful services, GraphQL, gRPC, familiarity in Node.js for server-side development a plus.
  5. Experience with both SQL/NoSQL databases such as Couchbase/Redis, knowledgeable in microservices architectures and their security implications.
  6. Experience with container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes), DevOps (GitHub Actions) and GitOps tools.
  7. Experience with cloud-native services (Azure, etc.) and Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools (Terraform, etc.).
  8. Familiarity with security tools and frameworks such as OWASP Top 10, NIST & MITRE ATT&CK.
  9. Effective communication and ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate security practices.
