Catastrophic Injury Claims Specialist

This is an exciting opportunity to join our Complex Injury Claims Team at Keoghs, a leading law firm in catastrophic injury work. As a Catastrophic Injury Claims Specialist, you will work with our experienced team to handle high-value multi-track and catastrophic injury claims, including brain injury, spinal injury, amputation, and fatal claims.
Key Responsibilities:- Manage a caseload of complex injury claims, working closely with our Lead Cat Lawyer to progress each file from receipt of papers to resolution.
- Communicate with sophisticated insurer clients, advising them on all aspects of claims and keeping them updated as the matter progresses.
- Develop relationships with Keoghs' clients to win their confidence in your detailed knowledge of their cases and your understanding of the issues impacting catastrophic claims.
- Adopt a forensic and detailed approach to liability investigations to preserve levers in relation to interim payments, care claims, statutory funding issues, and CCG input.
- Use your analytical skills and attention to detail to draw on expert evidence, medical records, and other sources of evidence to ensure experts consider all relevant details.
- Think strategically around issues such as GCS, RA/PTA, ambulatory issues, level of SCI, and questioning anomalies to translate issues identified in records or medical evidence into a meaningful difference on catastrophic injury files.
- Use Ogden Tables to split multipliers, determine life expectancy, interpolate, and build complex illustrative spreadsheets to assess quantum based on the evidence.
- Build rapport with solicitors for other parties to engage meaningfully with them to discuss substantive issues around the case.
- Attend site visits, MDT meetings, client meetings, mediation, and JSMs.
- Engage with counsel and experts in conference and on the telephone.
- Deliver agreed performance targets and quality standards, recording a minimum of 7 chargeable hours per day.
- Delegate to more junior members of the team and be fully engaged in their development in terms of technical ability and achievement of objectives.
- Maintain case management systems with up to date management information for clients.
- Ensure compliance with the SRA Standards & Regulations.
- Qualified solicitor, CILEX, or proven relevant legal experience is essential.
- Significant experience in handling or assisting upon large loss or catastrophic injury files is required.
- Defendant experience is preferable, but Claimant experience at a sufficient level of expertise and seniority will be considered.
- Understanding of case law and litigation practice and process, and Court Practice Rules as relevant to high-value claims.
- Strong knowledge of relevant insurance principles.
- Understanding and experience in advising upon contested interim payment applications is preferred.
- Understanding of relevant considerations in relation to statutory funding for care packages is preferred.
- Ability to plan and prioritise workloads on complex cases is essential.
- Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to weigh facts, apply the law, and make decisions.
- Ability to anticipate problems and identify solutions.
- Driven to achieve and to take development opportunities when they arise with a positive attitude.
- Calm under pressure with the ability to re-prioritise and delegate effectively when required.
