Job Title: Deputy Designated Nurse for Safeguarding Children and Children in Care

We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Deputy Designated Nurse to join our team at NHS Lancashire and South Cumbria Integrated Care Board (ICB). The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting the Designated Nurse and Directors of Safeguarding in delivering statutory safeguarding functions.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Deputise for the Designated Nurse as required to ensure the delivery of statutory safeguarding functions.
  • Provide support, expertise, and advice to the safeguarding leadership team in overseeing the delivery of statutory safeguarding functions and undertaking statutory reviews.
  • Present findings of reviews to the ICB and NHS England, as well as other relevant partners, ensuring recommendations are implemented.
  • Act as a contact point for statutory partners, including Local Authorities and the Police.
  • Attend meetings across the safeguarding partnership arrangements, representing the ICB.
  • Manage agreed local and system-wide work areas, working with other deputy and designated professionals.
  • Support Specialist Safeguarding Practitioners in their statutory delivery of the safeguarding agenda.
  • Work with the Heads of Safeguarding to oversee the delivery of safeguarding in commissioned Providers.
  • Deliver an integrated approach to safeguarding with statutory partners at place.
  • Align with regional and national NHSE work streams for safeguarding, embedding quality practice standards.
  • Continually assess and escalate any risk in relation to safeguarding arrangements.
  • Support effective reporting into the ICB Place Based Assurance meetings and ICB Quality Committee.
  • Contribute to an annual safeguarding report and regular assurance as required.
  • Work with and support preparation within local health services for regulatory body inspections of safeguarding.
  • Be a visible leader in the provision of quality safeguarding arrangements.
  • Provide safeguarding supervision across the health economy.
  • Ensure population health is understood and integral in the delivery of our safeguarding statutory functions.

Person Specification:
  • Evidence of significant experience of safeguarding leadership and multi-agency working.
  • Track record of managing staff and improving internal service delivery.
  • Exposure and involvement in CSPR/DHR process and delivering and embedding learning.
