Main Responsibilities:

  • Perform phlebotomy procedures on patients, adhering to standard operating procedures and ensuring accurate labelling of samples.
  • Implement measures to reduce patient anxiety related to blood-taking procedures, promoting a safe and informed environment.
  • Verify patient information, test requirements, and special instructions for accurate specimen collection.
  • Identify patients correctly and ensure accurate labelling of samples, instructing patients on corrective methods for discrepancies.
  • Utilize the computer system to handle patient data, ensuring accuracy and security.
  • Summon assistance in case of adverse reactions or fainting episodes during phlebotomy sessions.
  • Document interventions on EMIS and complete relevant documentation.
  • Conduct baseline observations, including pulse oximetry, blood pressure, temperature, and pulse rate, recording findings accurately.
  • Administer IM injections and flu vaccinations, if appropriately trained.
  • Prepare specimens for onward transportation and monitor stock control.
  • Ensure clinical rooms are adequately stocked and prepared for each session.
  • Monitor and clean fridges routinely, adhering to extant guidance.
  • Deliver opportunistic health promotion where appropriate.
  • Perform other administrative and clinical duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Vaccine administering qualification
  • Phlebotomy qualification
  • GCSEs grade A to C in English and Maths

Desirable Qualifications:

  • NVQ Level 3 qualification

Desirable Experience:

  • Experience working in a GP practice
  • Experience as a Health Care Assistant
  • Experience working within the NHS or Primary Care
