Senior Medical Director/Consultant Psychiatrist Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Consultant Psychiatrist to join our team at Cygnet Hospital Woking as a Senior Medical Director. The successful candidate will provide senior medical cover on Acorn Ward, our 10-bed female mental health PICU service.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and will oversee and maintain the care of all ward inpatients as required. They will also have responsibility for auditing the medical services rendered at the ward and ensuring their good quality in accordance with GMC standards of good medical practice and other relevant professional guidelines.

In this role, your expertise will be the driving force for life-changing treatment fully supported by a Specialty Doctor and first-class multidisciplinary team including qualified nurses, psychologists, and occupational therapists.

The successful candidate will also be interviewed/considered for a Medical Director post at Cygnet Hospital Woking with additional remuneration.

Main Duties of the Job

Cygnet Hospital Woking is our 62-bed service providing a range of mental health services for men and women. This role will provide psychiatric care to patients on Acorn Ward, our 10-bed female mental health PICU service.

The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician and have overall medical responsibility for patient treatment plans, whilst liaising closely with the Multi-Disciplinary Team (Psychologists, Occupational Therapists, Registered Mental Health Nurses, Social Workers, etc.).

The post holder will be expected to act as a positive role model, maintaining and demonstrating a positive attitude towards patients, their families, visitors, and other staff.

Job Responsibilities

Your role responsibilities will include:

  • Working as part of a multidisciplinary team (MDT)
  • Taking overall responsibility for patient treatment plans in conjunction with the MDT
  • Assessing referrals and undertaking mental state examinations of service users
  • Undertaking appropriate investigations, diagnosis, and treatment
  • Participating in ward rounds and clinical audits
  • Leading the implementation of risk assessment, risk management, and embedding clinical governance
  • Supervising reports for Mental Health Act tribunals and managers hearings and attending hearings
  • Participating in the telephone 1:7 Second on-call rota
Minimum Requirements
  • Fully GMC registered and MBBS (or equivalent) qualified
  • Registered on the specialist register (CCT/CESR), Section 12, and AC Status
  • Experienced and knowledgeable in adult psychiatry and mental health diagnosis
  • Knowledgeable of the Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, along with the Mental Capacity Act 2005 and Code of Capacity
  • A first-rate communicator who can interview, assess, and treat patients and write clear, comprehensive medical notes
  • Committed to continued professional development
  • Able to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • A member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists (MRCPsych) or equivalent

Successful candidates will be required to undergo an enhanced DBS check.
