Estimated Salary: £70,000 - £90,000 per annum

About MASS Consultants

MASS is an independent, global technology company trusted by highly secure organisations to provide advanced digital services that manage data and keep information safe.

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Principal Development Engineer to lead our Countermeasure Development team in designing and delivering cutting-edge solutions for defence applications. As part of our Electronic Warfare Support Group (EWOS), you will be responsible for providing technical advice and support to customers on countermeasure development, engineering support, and delivery.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to lead our in-house countermeasure simulation software tool, CounterWorX, which models physical interactions and phenomena across dynamic simulations. This role also offers exposure to working with our software development team and the assurance process for all releasable software products.

The team is based across two MASS sites, with a flexible working arrangement that allows for three days in the office and two days from home when project classifications permit.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead a team of engineers in developing models, designing new features, and solving customer challenges related to countermeasures.
  • Analyse, design, model, and verify countermeasure techniques across various real-world scenarios, culminating in delivery to customers.
  • Develop and implement software tools, such as CounterWorX, to support countermeasure development and deployment.
  • Mentor and coach junior engineers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Assist with technical bid writing, estimation, and presentation to potential customers.
Requirements and Qualifications

To succeed in this role, you must possess:

  • A detailed understanding of physics and mathematical principles at degree level.
  • Experience with Electro-Optics (EO), Infra-Red (IR), or Radio Frequency (RF) sensors and systems within a defence setting.
  • Strong technical leadership skills, with experience across the engineering lifecycle.
  • Programming expertise in MATLAB/Simulink/Python.
Benefits

As a valued member of our team, you can expect:

  • A competitive salary range of £70,000 - £90,000 per annum.
  • Benefits including 25 days annual leave, inclusive of up to 3 days December shut-down, buy/sell annual leave, pension schemes, private medical & dental insurance, life assurance, electric/hybrid car leasing scheme, cycle to work scheme, retail discounts, and continuous professional & personal development support.
About the Role

This is a challenging and rewarding opportunity to make a significant impact on our defence-related projects. If you are passionate about countermeasure development and have the necessary skills and qualifications, we encourage you to apply.
