Earthworks Examiner

We are seeking an experienced Earthworks Examiner to join our team at Network Rail. As an Examiner, you will be responsible for examining all earthworks across our route, including cuttings, embankments, earth bunds, and strengthened earthworks. You will also support the examinations of off-track assets, structures, and buildings, and report on their condition.

Key responsibilities include:

• Examination of earthwork structures on a risk-based frequency to determine their current condition.
• Visual examination of structures and buildings to determine their current condition.
• Detailed examination of structures and buildings to identify signs of deterioration.
• Examination of earthworks or structures in a systematic and logical manner, verifying that no aspects are omitted.
• Investigation of defects and deterioration to identify their severity and extent.
• Special examinations and monitoring to consider the condition of structures or elements outside of the examination cycle.
• Appraisal of asset condition using approved methods, taking account of material type and prevailing conditions.
• Recording of aspects not examined and changes in condition, with photographic evidence.
• Preparation of technical reports identifying examination findings.
• Completion of scoping visits and determination of examination requirements.
• Acting as Responsible Person On Site (RPOS) and/or Task Supervisor (TS) responsible for taking possessions and managing safety in possessions.
• Undertaking on-call duties.

Requirements include:

• Experience of undertaking earthworks examinations, recording defects, and reporting on findings for a selection of geologies and earthwork types.
• Experience of undertaking structural examinations, recording defects, and reporting on findings for a selection of structure types.
• Experience in the use of Microsoft Office.
• Excellent technical report writing skills.
• A full UK Driving Licence.

Desirable qualifications include EWE1, EWE2, or EWE3, experience logging to Eurocode 7 or BS:5930 and CIRIA C574, HNC or equivalent in Geology, Civil Engineering, or relevant discipline, STE4 and STE5 competencies, Bridge strike examiner competency, experience in SCMI and TCMI, and Confined spaces competency.
