Job Title: Apprentice Structural Engineer

Guidant Global is seeking a highly skilled and motivated Apprentice Structural Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our engineering team, you will be responsible for providing professional surveying services and project management, particularly those involving structural, dimensional, and topographical surveys and design solutions.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Carry out structural surveys and provide detailed reports, assessments, and design solutions.
  2. Provide detailed design advice to project/programme managers/supervisors for major construction projects and programmes.
  3. Achieve programme objectives through the application of appropriate project methodology, by:
    1. Defining scope of projects and programmes
    2. Setting up appropriate project structures
    3. Identifying and securing resource requirements
    4. Achieving project team commitment
    5. Ensuring quality control and reporting progress
    6. Preparing and delivering to programme plans
    7. Validating all required authorisations
    8. Preparing and completing post-implementation review
    9. Regular communication of progress between all stakeholders
    10. Continued effective consultation and, if appropriate, re-adjustment of priorities and objectives.
  4. Site inspections, structural surveys, and reports on work in progress
  5. Drawings, specifications, and schedules of rates
  6. Surveys and technical reports
  7. Making Building Regulation, planning, and other applications
  8. Certifying payments
  9. Updating job records
  10. Advice on forms of building contracts and consultants agreements
  11. Assist in the preparation of reports to Boards or Committees
  12. Leaseholder Notices
  13. Act as a professional witness in court cases

As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for maintaining excellent levels of communication with customers from end to end of the service, project, or programme. Conduct consultation exercises to enable customer choice, preferences, etc., related to projects.

Ensure Health and Safety, CDM Regs responsibilities are met by in-house and external contractors. Carry out site inspections to ensure Health and Safety requirements and standards are being met. Ensure legal obligations are fully understood and met. Manage risks. Consult with customers and monitor and check customer satisfaction with the project or programme. Ensure contractors understand the benefits of customer involvement. Deal with informal and Stage One complaints under the Council's Fair Comment policy.

Monitor the delivery and quality of work carried out, in order to maximise customer experience and satisfaction, taking the lead on dealing with any issues or complaints in a timely manner, ensuring any lessons learnt from these experiences are implemented as part of driving forward improvements to the service and continuously improving customer experience.

Monitor and accurately report project expenditure and costs against budgets. Provide reports to the Manager, to ensure effective budgetary management of the projects, including profiling and forecasting.

Take financial responsibility for allocated budgets, delivering within target tolerances and ensuring value for money by:

  1. Adhering to procurement principles and legislation and the city councils financial regulations
  2. Managing the project/programme budget commitment and expenditure making decisions on variances.
  3. Monitor and accurately report project/programme or service expenditure and costs against budgets. Provide reports to the Manager, to ensure effective budgetary management of the project/programme, including profiling and forecasting.
  4. Maintain an up to date knowledge of changes in construction policy, legislation, case law, innovation, and best practice, including Health and Safety requirements and standards, Planning Acts, Building Regulations, Party Wall Act, etc., and especially in relation to structural engineering issues.
