Exciting Opportunity to Join Roads Policing Unit

We are seeking highly motivated and ethical police officers to join our Roads Policing Unit as Constables. As a Constable in this unit, you will be part of a dynamic and motivated team tasked with delivering force and departmental priorities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver a high-quality and effective public service across the road network and within our communities.
  • Work as part of a team to provide 24-hour cover responding to incidents across the strategic road network and within districts, supporting local policing.
  • Attend and investigate potentially complex serious injury and fatal road collisions, with the possibility of being selected to perform the role of Investigating Officer or Family Liaison Officer for more serious collisions.
  • Use intelligence to target both RPU, Force, and local policing nominals in respect of both substantive and specialist offences.
  • Develop specialist skills through training and maintain those skills through regular use and enforcement, providing a range of support to colleagues and the public.
  • Focus fatal enforcement activity on high-risk roads and routes, as directed by the RP Tactical and Coordinating Group.
  • Consistently deliver effective, information, and intelligence-led patrol activity, working with internal and external partners to reduce harm and fight crime on the road network.
  • Promote public confidence and satisfaction through high-quality victim-focused investigations and effective communication of our work.

Essential Experience and Qualifications
  • You must be a serving police officer from a Home Office Force with no current performance or conduct concerns.
  • You must have successfully completed the two-year probationary period and the Policing Diploma, or your force's equivalent qualification at the point of application.
  • You must be trained and currently authorized to COP Advanced Driving level.
  • You must be trained and currently authorized to COP standards in Tactical Pursuit and Containment.
  • We especially welcome applications from applicants who are also qualified to ride police motorcycles.
What We Need from You
  • Satisfy all the relevant eligibility criteria and pre-employment checks, including medical screening, vetting, and a fitness test.
  • Be available to attend a 1-week transferee course.
  • Once you have completed this process and accepted our offer, we will contact your existing force for information, including pension, salary, service, training, and unpaid leave.
