Barts Health NHS Trust is seeking a highly experienced Radiation Safety Specialist to lead the Radiation Safety Site at Newham University Hospital and oversee the patient dosimetry programme. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in radiation protection in healthcare and diagnostic radiology, with experience as an MPE in Diagnostic Radiology and as a Radiation Protection Adviser.


The successful candidate will be responsible for managing the radiation safety services for all uses of ionising radiation at the Trust and diagnostic radiology physics support to external organisations. They will also oversee the development and implementation of the radiation protection programme, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and guidelines.


As a key member of the Radiation Safety team, the Radiation Safety Specialist will work closely with the site leadership team and the Head of Radiation Safety to ensure that the Trust's radiation safety services are delivered to the highest standard. They will also be responsible for managing the patient dosimetry service provided by Radiation Safety across all sites.


To be successful in this role, you will need to have a deep understanding of radiation protection legislation in healthcare and biomedical research, as well as experience of managing and supervising staff. You will also need to have the ability to analyse complex data and interpret and apply relevant guidance and legislation.


The Barts Health Orthopaedic Centre at Gateway Surgical Centre and Shrewsbury Road Health Clinic have general X-ray rooms, and the Radiology Department has 2 CT scanners, fluoroscopy, general X-ray rooms, and mammography. Mammography is a networked service managed by the St Bartholomew's Hospital site.
