Wrightbus is a leading manufacturer of buses, and we are currently seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Specialist to join our team. The successful candidate will have responsibility for supporting the development of our electrical engineering design, specifically planning and integration of electrical control systems for bus body and chassis electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the NPD Strategy for EV, FCEV, and HEV electrical control systems.
  • Develop electric powertrain charging systems.
  • Participate in vehicle life cycle development, from concept to engineering design, prototype build, certification, to Job 1.
  • Work effectively within a cross-functional team on overall vehicle development.
  • Elicit external and internal stakeholder requirements for new product developments.
  • Select electrical components and systems into new and existing vehicle designs ensuring products used meet required standards.
  • Design and specification of electrical hardware components for integration of vehicle subsystems, e.g., fuseboards, switchboxes.
  • Liaise with suppliers and manage progress to meet timing, specification, and engineering requirements.
  • Undertake technical assessment and analysis of components and systems and develop optimal solutions to meet overall vehicle requirements.
  • Design and develop CAN communications systems and architecture.
  • Design low and high voltage control for bus body and chassis electrical systems, including wiring harnesses and electrical panels.
  • Document, validate, and provide FMEA for design reviews and NPD gateways.
  • Create technical documentation with respect to vehicle electrical system and installation, e.g., wiring schematics, system schedules, harness drawings, electrical engineering standards, and procedures.
  • Provide and coordinate vehicle test plans and commissioning, testing, and data logging of vehicle control systems.
  • Provide technical assistance to production, support engineers, and customers.
  • Continued development of electrical systems to improve ease of installation and reduce cost of manufacture.
  • C-coordinate with assembly and manufacturing teams to ensure assembly of electrical system is correctly defined and implemented.
  • Provide system technical information and documentation for both internal and external customers.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • HND/HNC in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline (or equivalent).

Job Experience:

  • Working experience within relevant engineering environment.
  • Experience in commissioning and testing electrical control systems.
  • Knowledge of wiring harness design and manufacture.
  • Knowledge of electrical control systems hardware design.

Specialist Knowledge/Skills:

  • Problem solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Computer literate.
  • Previous experience of dedicated electrical design software (harnesses and Schematics) e.g., 2D CAD.

Desirable:

  • BEng or MEng degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering or related discipline.
  • Knowledge of chassis powertrain and driveline systems.
  • Knowledge of Electric Vehicle Power Electronics.
  • Knowledge of Hybrid Vehicle Power Electrics and control systems.
  • Knowledge of traction battery systems.
  • Understanding of coding/classification systems, parts listings, BOMs, and standardisation.
  • Knowledge and use of vehicle control system diagnostic tools.

Estimated Salary: £60,000 - £80,000 per annum, depending on experience.
