About Our Team

We are a dynamic team at the National Nuclear Laboratory, working on innovative projects that make a real-world impact. As an Engineering Director, you will play a key role in managing our Remote Engineering, Design and Robotics team, ensuring safe and successful delivery of customer work scopes.

The ideal candidate will have a directly relevant science degree or equivalent experience, line management experience, and the ability to obtain SC level security clearance. You will be responsible for co-ordinating and leading operational activities within the team, assuring safe operations of equipment and facilities, and delivering projects, programs, and technical work.

Main Responsibilities
  1. EHSS&Q Accountabilities: The Engineering Director will be accountable for EHSS&Q within their team, including duty of care for all staff, ownership and safe operations of equipment and facilities, and delivery of EHSS&Q Assurance and Improvement Plans.
  2. Capability Accountabilities: The Engineering Director will be accountable for all resources within their team, including staff leadership, performance, availability, SQEP, competency review, development, technical training, progression, and recruitment, as well prioritize facilities and equipment maintenance, renewal, disposal, repair, inspection, access, and utilization.
  3. Budget Control Accountabilities: The Engineering Director will support the Capability Leader for all budgetary control associated with their team, measured against budget control through KPIs.
  4. Customer Delivery Accountabilities: The Engineering Director will be accountable for all customer delivery associated with their team, including work with Account Directors and Customer Workstream Leads to engage with customers to maximize business opportunities, technical excellence in customer delivery, and technical resolution.
  5. Leadership Accountabilities: The Engineering Director will be accountable for cultural and business strategies associated with their team, including development of the team in line with business requirements, recognizing technical advancements, team strategy development, implementation, and review, quality of science and customer delivery, people performance, development, and cultural change.
