Job Title: Machining Process Engineer

We are seeking a highly skilled Machining Process Engineer to join our team at the Manufacturing Technology Centre in Coventry. As a key member of our High Temperature Research Centre (HTRC) team, you will play a crucial role in conducting research and improvement activities related to the design and manufacture of turbine components.

About the Role

The HTRC is a collaboration between the University of Birmingham and Rolls-Royce, and is equipped with state-of-the-art equipment for investment casting, machining, and advanced metrology of single crystal components. As a Machining Process Engineer, you will work closely with our co-located design and manufacturing engineering teams to develop novel design and manufacturing techniques for turbine components.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Conduct research and improvement activities related to the design and manufacture of turbine components
  2. Develop and implement new manufacturing processes and techniques for turbine components
  3. Collaborate with design and manufacturing engineering teams to develop and implement new design and manufacturing techniques
  4. Conduct experiments and analysis to understand and develop manufacturing and component capability
  5. Develop and manage methods of manufacture and technical packages for turbine component manufacture
Requirements

We are looking for a candidate with a degree in a relevant field, such as manufacturing engineering or mechanical engineering, and experience in machining processes, including High Speed EDM, Wire EDM, and CNC Milling. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of manufacturing engineering and component engineering principles, and experience working in research environments.

Candidates with experience in some of the following areas will be strongly positioned to perform this role:

  1. Experience working with customers to optimise the design of products (Design for Manufacture - DfM)
  2. Experience with CAD software packages and CAM activities
  3. Experience in creating and managing experiments to understand and develop manufacturing and component capability
  4. Experience in creating and managing methods of manufacture and technical packages for turbine component manufacture
