Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage database and middleware server resources, including installation, system management, performance tuning, and backup.
  • Contribute to the design, capacity planning, and strategic growth planning of centralised databases and middleware.
  • Provide technical expertise and assistance to IT professionals and 3rd party contractors in database management and middleware server systems.
  • Monitor the latest developments in database management to provide longer-term technical planning.
  • Review data management to maintain and improve efficiency, and develop standard procedures for use by all database administrators.
  • Initiate regular exercises to optimise database and middleware performance, and ensure recovery plans are tested regularly.
  • Develop specifications for installation and commissioning of hardware and software, and implement new application software releases and patches.
  • Lead the investigation of complex problems, diagnose underlying causes, and implement known on-site solutions and workarounds.
  • Assist users experiencing difficulties with databases and middleware systems, and strive to enhance the service offered by Technical Services through the Continuous Improvement Process.
