Job Title: Learning Support Assistant

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Learning Support Assistant to join our team at a school in Gateshead. The successful candidate will work with students aged 8-16 years old who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with children who exhibit challenging behaviors and will be able to provide a supportive and engaging environment for our students. The school emphasizes motivating students to ensure an engaging curriculum and a successful transition into the next stage of their lives.

The normal working pattern is Monday to Friday 8:30 to 4:30pm, and this is a long-term position, given a successful trial.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support students with SEMH needs in a classroom setting
  • Develop and implement strategies to promote student engagement and motivation
  • Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff to provide a comprehensive support package
  • Provide individualized support to students with SEMH needs
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of the school's SEMH policy
Requirements:
  • Enhanced DBS or be willing to obtain one
  • Experience working with children with SEMH needs
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient and compassionate personality
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team
