Senior Planning Lawyer Opportunity

Harborough District Council is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Planning Lawyer to join its Legal Services team. As a key member of the team, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the Council's activities are conducted lawfully and transparently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Deliver high-quality legal advice to support the Council's planning activities.
  • Represent the Council in tribunals and courts, particularly in planning matters.
  • Draft and advise on reports for Cabinet, Council Committees, and other meetings.
  • Attend planning committee meetings as the Council's legal adviser.
  • Lead and manage the delivery of legal services in planning matters.
  • Handle a caseload of complex and sensitive legal issues.
  • Provide training and support to other officers in legal procedures.
  • Ensure compliance with all Council policies and statutory requirements.
Requirements:
  • Several years post-qualification experience in planning law, including s.106 agreements, planning appeals, and enforcement.
  • Proven experience in the public sector or in private practice.
  • Willingness to attend evening planning committee meetings.
