Job Description Summary

Become part of a dynamic team and contribute to the development of innovative solutions for the Green Energy transition. As a Senior Software Application Architect, you will be responsible for architecting the HVDC controls system solution, ensuring it is reusable and scalable to accommodate new requirements efficiently.

The successful candidate will work closely with a highly motivated and dynamic team of engineers to develop a solution for the HVDC market. The development of such Control & Protection systems is technically challenging and involves various engineering disciplines, requiring a collaborative and innovative approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess customer requirements against reference architecture to support business needs.
  • Own HVDC controls system architecture definition and prototyping to validate concepts.
  • Define application interfaces to enable team members to develop low & high-level design specifications.
  • Lead engineering design reviews and technical leadership, identifying potential project risks and proposing safe, reliable, and compliant solutions.
  • Train/coach junior team members to increase architecture knowledge.
  • Understand project milestones, financial impact, and technical risks, ensuring they are understood and mitigated in accordance with the plan.
  • Ensure project plans contain necessary activities and studies to meet customer requirements and proposed technical solutions.
  • Lead improvements to existing solutions towards standardization.
  • Develop new strategies for control, protection, and sequencing to meet customer technical specifications.
  • Support continual improvement, introducing tools, methods, and process improvements, and coordinating with Continuous Improvement leaders.
  • Promote collaboration between projects and ensure Return of Experience is incorporated.

Qualifications / Essential Requirements:

  • Engineering degree or equivalent, including power systems and power electronics subjects, or proven equivalent knowledge and experience in HVDC business.
  • A sense of urgency and ability to identify and manage technical risks.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, experienced in creating and presenting technical reports and responding to clients' technical questions.
  • Ability to understand and communicate customer requirements, lead technical discussions with customers, and develop client relationships.
  • Understanding of Control & Protection system functionalities and interactions between different functionalities.
  • Appreciate system hierarchy and constraints, such as execution time, delays, bandwidths, redundancy, and physical signal requirements.
  • Able to partition and allocate systems to realize a deployable system.
  • Expert knowledge of Matlab/Simulink/Stateflow and associate toolboxes to define architecture(s).
  • Appreciate coding standards using Mathworks tools, as well as requirement and test generation and linking.
  • Experienced in using Mathworks tools to prototype, study, and refine applications, and capturing design concepts using system engineering concepts.
  • Able to work to deadlines under pressure while maintaining safety, quality, and engineering integrity of the solution.
  • Must be flexible with working hours and willing to travel to support projects globally.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Process improvement or RCA experience or certification.
  • Ability to define requirements and ensure they adhere to best practice.
  • Experienced in technical leadership.
  • Experience working in HVDC industry.
