We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Safety Specialist to join our team at Your World Recruitment Ltd. As an Apprentice Building Safety Officer, you will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive fire safety service across all Trust-owned properties.

About the Role

This is a temporary position with the possibility of extension, expected to last 6 months. You will work in Dorset, Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm (37.5 hours per week). The salary for this role is estimated to be between £22 - £22.50 PAYE Inclusive of Holiday Pay or £24 - £24.50 Umbrella.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Ensure compliance with regulatory provisions regarding fire safety in all Trust-owned properties.
  2. Conduct fire risk assessments in all Trust-occupied premises, working to industry standards and regulations.
  3. Undertake overarching fire risk assessments in complex hospital buildings, ensuring efficacy of shared arrangements, horizontal evacuation, and compartmentation.
  4. Develop and maintain structured records of risk assessments, evacuation plans, fire drills, and training.
  5. Compile and analyze end-of-month and annual fire safety statistics, producing reports as required.
  6. Investigate all incidents of fires and fire alarm actuations, monitoring trends to assist the Trust in learning from incidents.
  7. Maintain up-to-date resource bases of legislation and codes of practice.
  8. Deliver fire safety training to approximately 4500 staff, developing a suitable program based on their needs.
  9. Review Trust fire-related policies and procedures with the Head of Safety and Compliance.
  10. Support the Head of Safety and Compliance in producing an annual report for the Trust Board.
  11. Liaise with staff and management regarding fire safety matters.
  12. Plan, organize, conduct, and report on emergency planning exercises, focusing on fire scenarios.

Requirements

  1. You must have a degree in fire engineering/engineering science or extensive experience in fire safety.
  2. Certificate in training practice or extensive experience of preparing and delivering training.
  3. Membership of a professional organization (e.g., the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO)).
  4. Experience in undertaking fire risk assessments and preparing training courses.
  5. Able to set up portable fire simulator trainer weighing approximately 20kg.
  6. Good mobility to access certain work environments.
  7. Moderate physical effort required as duties dictate.
  8. In-depth knowledge of fire safety, fire risk management, fire legislation, and codes of practice.
  9. Hold a current driving license and access to a vehicle insured for business purposes.
