Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Fire Safety Specialist to join our team at Your World Recruitment Ltd. As an Apprentice Building Safety Officer, you will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive fire safety service across all Trust-owned properties.
About the Role
This is a temporary position with the possibility of extension, expected to last 6 months. You will work in Dorset, Monday to Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm (37.5 hours per week). The salary for this role is estimated to be between £22 - £22.50 PAYE Inclusive of Holiday Pay or £24 - £24.50 Umbrella.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure compliance with regulatory provisions regarding fire safety in all Trust-owned properties.
- Conduct fire risk assessments in all Trust-occupied premises, working to industry standards and regulations.
- Undertake overarching fire risk assessments in complex hospital buildings, ensuring efficacy of shared arrangements, horizontal evacuation, and compartmentation.
- Develop and maintain structured records of risk assessments, evacuation plans, fire drills, and training.
- Compile and analyze end-of-month and annual fire safety statistics, producing reports as required.
- Investigate all incidents of fires and fire alarm actuations, monitoring trends to assist the Trust in learning from incidents.
- Maintain up-to-date resource bases of legislation and codes of practice.
- Deliver fire safety training to approximately 4500 staff, developing a suitable program based on their needs.
- Review Trust fire-related policies and procedures with the Head of Safety and Compliance.
- Support the Head of Safety and Compliance in producing an annual report for the Trust Board.
- Liaise with staff and management regarding fire safety matters.
- Plan, organize, conduct, and report on emergency planning exercises, focusing on fire scenarios.
Requirements
- You must have a degree in fire engineering/engineering science or extensive experience in fire safety.
- Certificate in training practice or extensive experience of preparing and delivering training.
- Membership of a professional organization (e.g., the Institution of Fire Engineers (IFE) or the Institute of Fire Prevention Officers (IFPO)).
- Experience in undertaking fire risk assessments and preparing training courses.
- Able to set up portable fire simulator trainer weighing approximately 20kg.
- Good mobility to access certain work environments.
- Moderate physical effort required as duties dictate.
- In-depth knowledge of fire safety, fire risk management, fire legislation, and codes of practice.
- Hold a current driving license and access to a vehicle insured for business purposes.
