We are seeking individuals to participate in Independent Appeal Panels for school admissions appeals at East Sussex County Council.

This rewarding volunteer role allows you to support your community by making a difference in the lives of children and their families.

As an Independent Appeal Panel member, you will be responsible for reading case papers in advance of the hearing, actively participating in the appeal process, and working with other panel members to determine whether to uphold or dismiss a parent's appeal.

You will need to possess good literacy, communication, and listening skills, as well as the ability to act objectively and impartially.

We offer training on the legal framework of the appeal process and local procedures, ensuring you have the necessary knowledge to excel in this role.

The hours of work are flexible, with a limited commitment throughout the year during the working week. The busiest period is between April and July.

Our estimated salary for this role is £15-20 per hour, depending on experience. Out-of-pocket expenses are also covered.
