We are seeking a skilled combat designer to contribute to the development of a new combat experience for players. This role involves using expert knowledge in combat mechanics to design and develop combat gameplay elements, including 3Cs (Character, Camera, and Controls) and Enemy AI.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design and develop combat gameplay elements, including character and enemy AI, to create a thrilling combat experience.
  • Analyse and enhance the fun factor and comprehension of combat, identifying issues and opportunities for improvement.
  • Write and maintain documentation for feature specifications, mechanics, and behaviors.
  • Rapidly prototype new concepts in Unreal Engine 5 to test feasibility.
  • Utilize Blueprints and behavior tree scripting to develop and tune gameplay systems.
  • Collaborate with teams across animation, engineering, audio, art, and visual effects to deliver a compelling combat experience.
  • Work with level design and narrative teams on encounter layout and gameplay tuning.
  • Balance combat difficulty progression and incorporate regular play-testing into the design process.

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of experience in the game industry, specifically in combat design for shipped console/PC/mobile titles.
  • Demonstrated ability to implement heroes, enemies, bosses, or combat systems.
  • A passion for combat games and a deep understanding of their mechanics.
  • Logical thinking with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying abstract concepts verbally and in written documentation.
  • Strong collaborative skills, especially interdepartmental, fostering an inclusive and collaborative workspace.
  • Scripting experience with tools such as visual scripting, Lua, C#, or Python.
  • A degree in Computer Science or Game Design is a plus.
  • Proficiency with Unreal Engine.
