Role Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Learning Support Assistant to join our team at Polaris. This is an exciting opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of vulnerable children and young people.

The successful candidate will be responsible for mentoring and supporting one pupil or a small group of no more than six pupils, providing individualised support to help them achieve their full potential.

In addition to this role, you will also assist with lesson planning and classroom preparation, as well as supervising pupils during non-classroom time.

This is a fantastic opportunity to further develop your skills and experience in a specialist educational setting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor and support pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH)
  • Support the Classroom Teacher during lessons and provide individualised support to pupils
  • Report on pupils' progress and concerns, and liaise with other staff members to ensure pupils' needs are met
  • Supervise pupils during non-classroom time, including extra-curricular activities and school trips
Requirements
  • A strong basic education, ideally to A-level, with a minimum of GCSE Grade C or equivalent in English Language and Mathematics
  • Previous experience in a similar role, such as a Teaching Assistant
  • Some previous experience of working with pupils with SEMH within an educational setting
  • Experience of behaviour management and techniques
  • Committed to professional development and willing to learn
