Job Title: Associate Gemmology Instructor

Job Summary:

Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Associate Gemmology Instructor to join our team in London. As a key member of our education department, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality instruction to students in our On-Campus Gemmology Programs and Lab classes.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Deliver GIA-approved course material to students in a clear and engaging manner.
  • Instruct students in the use of gemmological equipment, including microscopes, spectrometers, and other specialized tools.
  • Maintain a positive and respectful learning environment, fostering a sense of community among students and staff.
  • Address student concerns and issues promptly and effectively, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Liaise with GIA London Management and other education staff to ensure global company standards are met locally.
  • Participate in education meetings and training, as needed, to stay up-to-date on course material, student concerns, and operational procedures.
  • Proctor tests, receive, correct, and process student assignments, and submit final grades to Student Services.
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues and management, dealing with others professionally under pressure.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to ensure continuous improvement consistent with GIA's overall mission.
  • May travel occasionally for instructional purposes.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's Degree required.
  • Three years of related practical gem/jewelry experience required.
  • GIA Graduate Gemologist qualification required.
  • Strong knowledge of gemstones, diamonds, and gem identification equipment.
  • Ability to demonstrate a command of theory and contemporary knowledge, and continuing study in the field.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • A flexible approach to work and a positive attitude towards change.
  • Proven service orientation and follow-up to ensure a professional learning environment and student retention.
  • Ability to work well in a fast-paced, multi-tasking environment.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge in relevant software applications (Windows, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Multilingual candidates fluent in one or more European languages preferred (French or Italian strongly preferred).
  • Must have legal right to work in the UK.
